

She was born at home, on family farm near Anna, IL July 5, 1937, the daughter of Sampson S. and Beatrice E. (Glasco) Wiley. She married John P. Russo, June 6,1957 and he preceded her in death January 31, 2015.
Virginia worked as a secretary for the Acorn Wire and Iron Works in Chicago before moving to Springfield. She continued her career with Kearny Advertising and lastly with WRSP TV. She enjoyed gardening and was a great cook. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress. She made many of her own clothes as well as for others. She was very devoted to her husband John’s military service and involvement. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving are her two sons; John W. (wife Zhanna Itisheva) Russo of Williamsville, IL and Larry J. (wife Kim) Russo of Sherman, IL, her grandchildren: John M. Russo of Springfield, Antonio, Elio, Olivia and Daniella Russo all of Williamsville, IL, two step-grandchildren; Derek Wicker of Shelbyville, IL and Audrey (husband Nolen) Brown of Jackson, MO, her great grandson, John M. “Matthew” Russo of Williamsville, step-great grandchildren; Ella Wicker and Piper Brown, her nieces, Dorleska Chunn and Jane (husband Roy) Wilson both of Ocala, FL, and Glenda (husband Eddie) Sadler of Anna, IL, two nephews, Terry (wife Lynn) Wiley of Morton, IL and Mark (wife Debbie) Wiley of East Peoria, IL and several cousins.
Her parents, three brothers, Lester, James and Ralph two great grandchildren, Sabrina and Savannah Russo and a niece, Linda Wiley-Jones also preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00 am at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Pastor Ken Gennicks will officiate.
