He was born in Royalton, IL, May 29, 1946 the son of Lonnie and Lucy (Craft) Mann. His parents, three brothers: Mitch, Mike and Lonnie, as well as three sisters: JoNell Ramsey, Sally Cheathem and Debbie Mann, all preceded him in death.
Al married the love of his life, Rose Viernum in Royalton, June 20, 1969. They were blessed with three daughters: Celestia Mann of Summerville, S.C., Brandi (husband Jarrod) Brian of Byron, MN, and Jenny Mann of Loami. He has six grandchildren: John “Mikey” and Joshua Kenerley; Will, Hudson, and Madeline Brian; and Mila Pine; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Al was an expert and was accomplished in his trade. He worked with his friend Mike Patterson Drywall and owned and operated Al Mann Interiors. His talent of drywall installation was a work of art. He also was considered second to none in grid ceiling systems, with a precise eye for accuracy.
Al loved his community and those who he shared it with. He served as the Mayor of Loami for 23 years, 2000-2023; as a member of the New Berlin, IL School Board for many years; and was a former member of the Carpenter’s Union. He loved old cars, but especially Chevrolets. He had a keen eye for original parts and authenticity of original specifications. He and Rose enjoyed them together, attending shows or just out on a drive.
Al was a faithful, baptized member of West Side Christian Church. He found great peace being in worship with Rose and his family. His family was very important to him, the accomplishments of his grandchildren brought him great pride in all their endeavors. Al was a friend to so many. If there was a need, he would help out anyway he could. Al had a delightful sense of humor, putting others at ease. He always had a mischievous sparkle in his eye. To know him was to love him.
