

Walt was born on February 12, 1962, in Springfield, IL, the son of George and Sarah (Farley) Ellenburg.
Walt grew up in Springfield and attended Lanphier High School. He was a mechanic in many different industries and over the years worked for Bunn-O-Matic, Mermaid Car Wash, and various automotive shops. Walt built a modified race car and enjoyed racing his car at the local tracks. He loved NASCAR, camping, fishing, but most importantly, loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorraine Dyer; three brothers, George Ellenburg, Chuck and Jimmy Dyer; and son-in-law, Geraldo Andre Mora Cruz.
He is survived by his two sons, Walter Curtis (wife, Stephanie) Ellenburg, Jr. of Jacksonville and David Ellenburg of Springfield; one daughter, Heather Mora of Riverton; three stepchildren, Sabrina Gelsinger, James (wife, Ashley) Gelsinger, and Christina (husband, David) Scroggins, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, Christine, Corey, Jacob, Cole, Jasper, Ryan, Derrick, Alex, Natalie, Katelyn, Elijah, Julianna, Alexander, Maddox, Rinley, and Isabelle; three siblings, William (wife, Marie) Ellenburg of Springfield, Buddy (wife, Mel) Dyer of Springfield, and Sara (husband, Tom) Strutton of Swedeborg, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
