

Wilbert "Gene" E. Edwards, 86, of Mt. Pulaski, died at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski. Gene was born July 7, 1932, in Williamsville, the son of Chester R. and Dorothy Dye Edwards. He married Ursula Mein on October 2, 1954, in Berlin, Germany. Gene attended Williamsville Grade School, Williamsville High School, and received his security certificate from Lincoln Land Community College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 3rd Armored Division in Berlin, Germany. Gene was proud to work in the dairy industry for 26 years. He also worked security for CWLP Lake Security for 16 years. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, the Anchor Boat Club, and Riverton Masons. Gene was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching sports, writing, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ursula Edwards of Mt. Pulaski; daughter, Marina (Tim) Chestnut of Springfield; son, Ron (Janelle) Edwards of Waverly; grandchildren, Greg (Molly) Chestnut, Brittany (Amie) Chestnut Robinson, and Eric Chestnut, Kyle Langstrom, Kloni (Robert) Arseneault, and Shian Edwards; great-grandchildren, Sophia Chestnut, Karlee Snider, Kylee Langstrom and Waylon Langstrom; and siblings, Mary Jane Brewer and James Edwards, both of Springfield. Prayer Service: 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Visitation to follow until 6:00 p.m. Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
