Wilbur Charles Saylor, 92, of Springfield, passed away on April 3, 2022 at Concordia Village. He was born on June 26, 1929 in Beardstown, Illinois to John Saylor and Elda Kleinschmidt. Wilbur married Tana Gillespie on September 3, 1950 in Centralia, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Saylor is survived by three daughters: Kyla (Bob) Tipsword of Westfield, IN., Andrea (David) Gratz of Kirkwood, MO., and Joelyn Akers of Caseyville, IL., six grandchildren: Scott (Cori), Amy (Jimmy), Joel (Paige), Alison (Jesse), Clayton (Gretchen), and Blake (Kiera), nine great-grandchildren and two sisters: Joyce McDowell of Springfield, IL and Donna Christ of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Merita Tweddell, Joan McCall and Yvonne Kinison.
Wilbur was a US Army Veteran and he worked as an engineer for Illinois Bell. He enjoyed golf, ice cream, and chocolate covered peanuts. He was a member of VFW Post 755 and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he served on the properties board.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday April 11, 2022 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Road, with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00am until the time of service at church.
