

Bill was born May 17, 1942, in Quincy, IL, the son of William J. Irvine, Sr. O.D. and Margaret E. File Irvine. He married Robin M. Bloxam on April 27, 2001.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard with the 183rd medical squadron, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and his career as an optometrist spanned over 40 years. Bill started alongside his father in private practice in downtown Springfield and was most recently employed with Walmart Vision Center.
He loved golf and was a member of Panther Creek Country Club for many years. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Bill was known for his generosity, kindness, and living a simple, humble life with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Timothy Irvine; and brother-in-law, John Barge.
Bill is survived by his wife, Robin M. Irvine of Springfield; sons, David Irvine of Springfield and Tyler (Sommer) Irvine of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Lisa (Tripp) Tuttle of Simpsonville, SC and Amanda Allen of Sherman; grandchildren, Malayna and Jaylin Marx and Braden and Hank Tuttle; sister, Patricia Barge of Dexter, MO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
