William P. "Bill" Eddington, Sr.

William P. "Bill" Eddington, Sr., 77, of Springfield, died at 12:12 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at St. Johns Hospital. Bill was born November 29, 1940 in Springfield, the son of Joseph Martin and Rose Cecelia Wilson Eddington. He married Ann White on September 22, 1962 in Springfield. Bill graduated from St. James Trade School and owned and operated Eddington and Sons Masonry since 1964. He was a member of St. Cabrini Church and was a judge and referee for the Springfield Boxing Club from 1974 to 1983. Bill taught all of his sons the brick trade. He enjoyed Sunday drives, reading books, and loved antiques. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Doug Eddington; daughter, Angela Eddington; and siblings, Joseph Martin Eddington, Thomas E. Eddington, Mary Riddle, and Rose Blakley. He is survived by his wife, Ann Eddington of Springfield; children, William "Bill" (Ann Neal) Eddington, Jr., Joe (wife, Elaine) Eddington, Brian (Jackie Clark) Eddington, Aaron (wife, Amy) Eddington, and Sara (husband, Joe) Vallar, all of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren with one on the way; two great-grandchildren; siblings, James L. (Terry Unland) Eddington of Springfield, Sr. M. Trinita Eddington, OP of Jackson, MS, Eileen Drendel of Sherman, Patricia Fleck of Sherman, and Judy (husband, Ron) Blakley of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Cabrini Church, 1020 N. Milton, Springfield with Rev. Scott Thelander, SJC and Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz, concelebrants. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N.
