

William "Bill" Hufker, 84, of Petersburg, died at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Sunny Acres surrounded by his loving family. William was born December 16, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, the son of William C. and Marie (Storman) Hufker, Sr; He married Margaret M. Kamer on September 23, 1950 in St. Louis, MO; she preceded him in death. William was a carpet installer for over 30 years and was a previous owner of Jailhouse Tavern in Springfield. He was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus No. 4175. William enjoyed horseshoes and bowling, coached women's softball, and was a founder of the Capitol Chargers Drum and Bugle Corp. He was born and raised an avid Cardinals fan, and raised his children to be the same. He later converted to being a Cubs fan to aggravate his children. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Hufker; and one sister, Lois Allen. He is survived by his son, Michael Hufker of Athens; his three daughters, Debra (husband, Tom) Galassi of Petersburg, Terri (companion, Lee Strode) Brake of Cantrall, and Lisa (husband, Bill) Brown of Salisbury; one sister, Jeannie (husband, Dan) Evans of St. Joseph, MO; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 Sangamon Ave., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Rev. Clint Honkomp, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
