

William A. "Bill" Ryan, 83, of Springfield, died at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at St. John's Hospice. Bill was born February 16, 1926 in Springfield, the son of William B. and Hazel M. Mirus Ryan. He married Anna E. Mette in Dieterich, IL on May 1, 1954. Bill was a 1944 graduate of Springfield High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's Mate, 2nd Class during WWII. Bill was employed as an electrician with B & B Electric for twenty-seven years and was a member of IBEW Local Union #193 for fifty-six years. He was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church and their men's club; as well as the American Legion Post 32, Knights of Columbus #364 and the Capital Area Woodworkers. Bill enjoyed wood working and tool repair and was able to fix just about anything. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard E. Ryan. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Anna E. Ryan of Springfield; one son, Christopher W. Ryan of Springfield; four daughters, Susan E. (husband, Daniel) Becker of Auburn, Jean M. (husband, Ted Smith) Ryan of Springfield, Mary V. Ryan of Jacksonville and Michelle A. Daniels of Deale, MD; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn (husband, Ralph) Bucci of Springfield, Virginia (husband, Tom) Halloran of St. Louis and Madonna (husband, Patrick) Shaughnessy of Pekin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:30 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John Ossola, celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Franklin, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
