

William Bill Rosario Severino, 78, of Springfield, died at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his residence. Bill was born on January 29, 1940, in Chicago, the son of William C. and Rose Lungo Severino, and both preceded him in death. He married Delores Jean Welch on March 18, 1967, in Bloomington, IL. Bill earned his bachelors degree from Millikin University in Decatur in 1962. While at Millikin, he played football all four years and was later inducted into Millikins Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned his masters degree in 1966 from Illinois State University in Normal. He earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1993. He taught school for 40 years and coached football for many of those years, ending his career at James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, IL with 33 years of service. After retirement, Bill and his wife moved to Springfield to be close to their grandchildren. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, witnessing his sons marriage ceremonies and the grandchildrens Baptisms, First Communions, and was blessed to be his oldest grandsons Confirmation Sponsor this past March. He lovingly and proudly attended his grandchildrens school plays, Christmas programs, recitals, horse shows and many, many sporting events. His devotion was always his family. Bill loved to exercise and worked out 5 or 6 days a week followed with a visit to Lowes. He loved tinkering in the garage and served as Mr.Fix-it/handyman for his and his sons homes. He was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and Chicago Bears fan and was able to attend Super Bowl XLI. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Delores Severino of Springfield; sons, William C. (wife, Michelle) Severino, M.D. and Michael A. (wife, Jennifer) Severino, both of Springfield; five Severino grandchildren, Jack W., Lydia P., Charles M., Isabella R., and Olivia G.; siblings, Grace M. (Jack/deceased) Slavsky of Eau Claire, WI, Richard C. Severino of Addison, IL and Nancy J. (Frank/deceased) Schauer of Roselle, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in- laws; and two grand-dogs, Crosby and Frank. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
