I don't remember exactly how or when I first met Bil. I am certain that I had not been in Springfield for very long, so I will guess late 96, early 97. But, I do know 2 things. Bil Shirley cared very much about his job and music.

I was on the Information Systems side of Child support. Bil, wanted, demanded that the system produced results that would ensure that families received proper support and from the proper source. Families would get payment from the person that lawfully required to send that support check! Not from someone that, due to a system foul up, was the wrong parent. Support went where it was supposed to go, from the source that was supposed to pay!

The other part, music, Bill introduced me to people that have recordings from the "wayback." He took me to Peggy's where I met and enjoyed some of his friends and the comfortable "homeness" of good people.

Bil will be missed by many people. Some, who may never know his name. Just his presence and actions.

My thoughts are for his family and close friends. He may not be telling you something, but, you will hear him anyway.

Mary So sorry to read of Bill's passing.  I enjoyed working with him(and you) for many years at Child Support.  I am sorry he was not able to enjoy more of his retirement. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Chip and I were so very sorry to read of Bill's passing. He was a very,very nice person. When Chip worked with Bill at Child Support they became friends. Chip came to your home once to see Bill's vast diecast model cars collection. Of course, he talked about them every time Bill's name came up as Chip loved them too. 
Then you came into my life at Child Support through Bill. What great timing,we had so much work to do to get the child support checks out and you jumped right in to assist. You were such a great help to families in need. Bill was the same kind of person.
 You were his light. It was easy to see his love for you and your's for him.
We will keep you and your family in our heart and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Although I've never had the pleasure of meeting you personally, I knew Bill back in the 80's and 90's.  Perhaps you heard stories about Richard and Ruthie along with many photographs.  Bill loved taking pictures and marking everything with a date and time.  The video you provided sharing your wedding day and other events was absolutely heart warming.  May your love and fond memories of Bill sustain you in the days ahead. Please accept my sincere condolences at this sad time.

Bill was a friend and co-worker for a number of years. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. When he and Mikey get together - things will start rocking again.

Dear Mary:  So sorry to hear of Bill's passing this morning.  I first met Bill in 1989-90 when he came into the hobby shop I managed on North 1st Street.  I enjoyed visiting with him many times over the years up until my retirement from the hobby shop on South 10th Street last July.  Besides his love of model car building, I also fondly remember his expressed love for you as he made almost weekly visits to Mississippi to be with you before you moved here to be with him.  I know he put several hundered thousand miles on that little blue car he used to drive!  He not only enjoyed your company, but also those he met in the establishments you both frequented when he visted you  every weekend.  Again, so sorry for your loss.  Bill was a wonderful guy who will me greatly missed. May God Bless You all in your time of sorrow & grief.
