In 1960, my parents moved into the Parklawn neighborhood from the Midwest. Not knowing the neighborhood or what was around, Ann and Bill (next door neighbor) took my Mom and Dad under their wing. A great friendship developed that lasted for years. When my mother passed away in 1984, Ann and Bill still maintained the same friendship and looked out for my father. That friendship lasted until my father passed away in 2004. Our family looked to the Sawyers as if they were our relatives. There were many good times shared between our families. Neil, do you remember the time we and your mom and dad went to get apples on the Skyline Drive? On the way back home, we couldn’t stop laughing! We literally giggled almost all the way home. Your Mom and Dad separated us and put me in the front seat and you in the backseat. Still, we laughed and laughed! Your parents maintained their cool despite our inability to stop laughing. In later years, my wife, daughter and I visited “Grandma Ann”. Our daughter always saw Ann as a Grandma figure. Ann always shared kind words and stories with Melinda. She too has fond memories of Ann. 
Every one of us will eventually leave this life. Ann and Bill will be in Heaven waiting to greet us! Praise God for the lives of both Ann and Bill Sawyer!

Ann and Bill were my godparents.  Bill went to Lynchburg College with my parents, Paul and Charlotte Nichols.  I regret that I fell out of touch with Ann after I married and had children . . . I am sorry I never got to visit with them after my wedding, although they stayed in touch with my parents and frequently visited them.  They were such dear people, and always so good to me.  Ann would have been thrilled that I was organist in a Lutheran church down here in Stafford!  

Please accept my condolences.  I will always remember them fondly and with much affection.

To Glen, Neil, and all family of Ann,

We so loved Ann, and dear husband Bill, through our encounters with them at Peace Church over many years. We grieve Ann’s recent passing though we celebrate her new life in the kingdom of our Lord.  Ann was indeed a beloved friend of so many during her life, sweet and wise, and a wonderful servant of the Lord.  May she rest eternally at peace in the Lord’s presence.  We send our thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

         We were sad to learn about your loss on your Moms 95th birthday when I called.  We have been neighbors and friends for
55 years and will miss our calls, visits, lunches and dinners together.
