Passed away on July 31, 2013 at the age of 88, at her home in Alexandria, VA and was preceeded in death by her husband Skip Sheridan. She was born June 4, 1925 in Kansas Cily, Missouri and married Claude Leo Sheridan on May 20, 1953 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from the Allen Hospital School of Nursing, Waterloo, Iowa in May of 1947. Her nursing career began at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa and at Denver Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. From 1955 to 1987 she was an emergency room nurse at Arlington Hospital in Arlington, VA After her retirement she continued to work with the City of Alexandria, Department of Mental Health as a supervisory nurse overseeing group homes. She also worked at the Hermitage Nursing Home in Alexandria, VA. Over the years she volunteered for a variety of charities and relief agencies to include ACCA, Capital Care Hospice, and Catholic Relief Services where she served in a Cambodian refugee camp in 1977. She will be remembered by all for her self sacrifice and her service to others. She is survived by her children, Patrick Sheridan (Peg), Mary Sheridan (Burt Ryan), Paul Sheridan (Dawn), Margaret Donegan(Robert), Phillip Sheridan (Becky), Maureen Sheridan (Darren Cathey) and grandchildren Kelly, Lauren and Grace Sheridan, Keane Ryan, Shelby and Devin Sheridan, Evan and Colin Donegan, Bridget and Sam Sheridan, and Stephen and Ryan Cathey. A visitation will be held Tuesday August 6, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield VA, 22151. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 7401 St. Michaels Lane, Annandale, VA 22003. Interment will take place Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 1:00pm at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA 22172.
