Daniel R. Clark, Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and devotion to his family whom he loved so dearly. Born in Newark, NJ to James M. Clark and Eileen R. Clark (née Jones), Daniel dedicated his life to his country, his faith, and his loved ones.
A decorated Army veteran and proud Army Ranger, Daniel served with distinction for 30 years, including during the Vietnam War. Daniel very proudly served as an original docent at the National Museum of the United States Army since its inception in 2019. During the span of his career, he and his wife moved 20 times, enabling them to live in many different places together and maintain lasting friendships from all over the world. They loved to travel and shared many adventures together.
His dedication to education led him to earn multiple advanced degrees in engineering and a Ph.D. in Chemistry. After his military career, he continued his passion for knowledge as a chemistry professor at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA., where he inspired countless students.
Daniel was a man of deep faith and an active member of the Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic minister and usher and was a proud Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to service and community.
Beyond his military and academic accomplishments, Daniel was a passionate athlete. A racquetball enthusiast, he also completed five marathons and ran countless numbers of Army Ten-Miler events, demonstrating the same discipline and perseverance that defined his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Katherine A. Clark (who he referred to as his “Treasure”), his sister, Sheila Fields (née Clark), and his children: Michael Clark (Allison), James Clark (Becky), Robert Clark (Terry), and Ellen Montemurno (Tony).
