David Wayne Steidel

David Steidel was born in Washington, DC to Oscar Leslie Steidel and Helen Irene Smith on 27

February 1935. He went to Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA. He married Karen E.

Hewitt on 14 June 1957 at Olivet Church in Franconia, VA. He worked for the US Postal Service

for 35 years and was the Manager of Customer Service and Acting Postmaster in charge for

Springfield, VA. He served in the United States Navy Reserves.

David (Dave) was a true family man and provider. A big game hunter, fisherman and lumberjack.

He had a passion for the great outdoors and shared that passion with his brothers target shooting

and hunting in Canada and Orkney Springs, VA. He, with his wife’s inspiration, enjoyed updating

their home with masonry, painting, wallpapering, and gardening. Often helping family and

friends with his masonry and lumberjack abilities. He passed along his love of music to his family,

had a beautiful singing voice, and sang in the choir at Olivet Church in his youth where he met

Karen. He also enjoyed baking apple pies and making his own wine and Jellies. He loved his

Washington Redskins (Commanders). Among his special qualities was his witty sense of humor

and wordsmithing with a twinkle in his eye and that handsome smile. Other hobbies included

bowling and playing tennis.

David Steidel is preceded in death by parents, Oscar L. Steidel, Helen S. Steidel. Brothers: Gordon

L. Steidel, Albert E. Steidel, Mansfield R. Steidel. Son: David W. Steidel, Jr. Son-In-Law: Leonard

Robbins.

David Steidel is survived by his wife, Karen H. Steidel. Daughters: Kathryn S. Robbins, Carol S.

Luks (Walter), and Diana D. Steidel. Brothers: Lauren O. Steidel, and William G. Steidel.

Grandchildren: Jessica L. Robbins, David E. Robbins (Cecelia), Lennon A. Luks, and Dylan S. Luks

(Olivia). Great-Grandchildren: Kurt L. Taylor and Blake S. Layton.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:15 am on 25 June 2022 at St. Barnabas Church and Memorial

Garden, 4801 Ravensworth Road, Annandale, VA 22003 with The Rev. John B. Shellito of St.

Barnabas Church, officiating.
