Doris Marie Campbell Catherine Was born on January 29, 1934 and died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012. Doris was born in Queens, New York and was the daughter of Myrtle Strong Campbell of Brooklyn, New York and Howard Anthony Campbell of Monroe City, Missouri. Doris is survived by her the sister of Ethel Ann Hardy of Plant City, Fl., and her three sons: Carl Cyril (Chip) Catherine, Jr., of Springfield, VA, Charles Anthony (“Chuck”) Catherine of Greensboro, NC, and Christopher Carl Catherine of Culpepper, VA. Also surviving are her 6 grandchildren with whom she loved dearly: Michael and Kelly Catherine of Springfield, VA and Cameron, Charlie, and Casey Catherine of Greensboro, NC and Alex Catherine of Culpepper, VA. Doris considered all her grandchildren a blessing and she was very thankful for them. Doris was raised in New York, and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in St. Albans, New York. Soon after her graduation from high school, she attended “Catherine Gibb’s Secretarial School in New York. Doris first received a secretarial position with Pan Am. Once employed at Pan Am, her goal was to be a Pan Am Flight Attendant. To become a Flight Attendant, she needed to become fluent in Spanish. Doris took many classes, and her goal became a reality. Not only was this one of her favorite careers, “love must have been in the air…” because Doris met her husband while working as a Flight attendant. He was an U.S. Air Force Officer, named Carl Cyril Catherine. Carl was an U.S. Air force B-52 Bomber Navigator. They were married on April 27, 1957 and had three boys. Unfortunately, in 1969, Carl passed at a young age; but the 12 years they were married were some of her happiest times. Doris then relocated to the Washington D. C. area, where she had many enjoyable careers, such as: Recreation Director, Administrative Assistant, and Contracts Administrator. She was employed by companies such as Watergate at Landmark, Arthur D. Little, Mitech and JIL. Her hobbies were: bowling, sewing, cooking and gardening. Additionally, Doris thoroughly enjoyed traveling and fine dining. She was also a very proud Cub Scout Den Mother for each of her three sons. Doris had fond memories of being a member of The World Wings Club, which was an organization of retired flight attendants. Doris was proud of her participation and was even the President of the organization a few times. Most people that had the pleasure of knowing Doris knew that her favorite color was red. She always had red cars and even had a CB handle: “Lady in Red.” She even had a license plate: “LadyNRed”. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 14 at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 10am. A celebration of life to follow.
