DOT,  of "George and Dot." That's how my dear friend Bernard (White) referred to Dorothy and Bernard's big brother, George.  Bernie spoke lovingly and often of both of them. Dot and George raised Bernard after both his parents passed away young. They took him in yet again after his 2005 stroke in Chicago (where he was living when we became friends) and cared for him until he passed away in 2014.  I only knew Dot through Bernard, but she and I spoke at length after I learned that Bernie had died. I thanked her for doing all she did for my dear friend (the first African-American to play on Georgetown's basketball team, a brilliant scholar, a loving friend, and the best conversationalist I've ever known--bar none).  I wish I'd known Dot better.  She was obviously a shining star.  Rest in peace, Dot.  And thanks for being the wonderful woman you were.    (Rosemary Nadolsky, Chicago)
