A native New Yorker, Edith was the youngest child of Charles and Sophie Jude, born on October 12, 1922.
She and her family survived the depression years and truly learned how to cook while saving money.
Edith learned to sew and knit from her mother and her sisters and enjoyed outings to the museums
and other local events in their community. After completing high school she joined the Doubleday
Book of the Month club and met many new people and made many friends and truly enjoyed
living and working in New York.
In May 1941, she and her friend Ann were in Central Park and so was a young Marine, well that was
truly love at first sight, and two years later in 1943 they were married.

and enjoying every day. She became a Girl Scout Leader of Troop #251 while in South Carolina and passed
on her skills to other young ladies. Duty called again and the family moved to Virginia where they have
been since 1960. During the next 20 years Edith worked for the Army, Navy and retired in 1984 so she
could enjoy retired living with her husband. They began their cross country travels in a Winnebago and
reacquainted themselves with family and met new friends and truly enjoyed each other and all the
new adventures that they encountered.
In 1989, during a visit to Southern California the birth of their granddaughter occurred during the October
earthquake! Edith's family has always been her first concern and when she was tired of the traveling
she decided to stay home and take care of the outdoor animals and birds that would visit the backyard.
We will continue that tradition as we cherish her memory and her w
