

LT. COLONEL, US ARMY (Retired)
Lt. Col. Edward J. Neumann passed away on October 30, 2013 at the Johnson Center at Falcon’s Landing, Potomac Falls VA. He was born on September 28, 1920 to Albert and Henrietta (Muench) Neumann of Pinconning, Michigan.
Lt. Col. Neumann had an illustrious military career which ran from 1942 to 1975. His military assignments included Paris, France where he served as Assistant AG at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). He served on General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s staff, where he was sent by President Truman to organize the military forces to support the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He also served in
Seoul, Korea and Phu Bai, Vietnam. During his 33 year career with the Army he was awarded fourteen service medals to include the United States Armed Forces fourth highest medal, The Bronze Star for meritorious service.
Lt. Col. Neumann was united in marriage with Dolores Volz on May 28, 1949. Dolores and Ed
shared 61 years of marriage before her death in June, 2010.
Lt. Col. Neumann was devoted to his church, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alexandria, VA. He
served as money counter and usher there for 21 years.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Bombria of Middle Island, NY;
son and daughter-in-law Ken and Jodee Neumann of Herndon, VA; four grandchildren,
Jennifer (Stephen) Bennett, Kevin Bombria, Kyle and Jason Neumann. He was also
Great Grandfather to Sia Elizabeth and Kaleigh Anne Bennett. He has an older brother,
William and a younger brother, Alvin who are living in Michigan.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Demaine’s Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA on Wednesday, November 6th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be held at a later date.
