

Edward Saunders Waring, age 86, of Alexandria, VA, died on Saturday, February 19, 2011. Mr. Waring, known as Ted, was born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1946 and attended Harvard University Graduate School of Design for three years. He retired in 1973 from his position as Staff Architect (Master Planner) for the Civil Engineering Directorate in the Air Force Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Prior to his career he served two and a half years in the Pacific in the Navy during World War II.
For thirty years, beginning in 1975, Mr. Waring was active in the Little Theatre of Alexandria, serving several terms on its board of directors. He designed sets for more than twenty of their productions, often winning "Best Set Design" at the LTA annual award programs. He enjoyed exercising and socializing with the Tai Chi group at the Watergate at Landmark condominium complex over the past ten years.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Dwight and Andrew (Jack) Waring, and is survived by nieces and nephews, Roslyn Norman, Amber Wolf, Alan Waring, Wendy Waring, and Michele Champagne. Great nieces and nephews are Kathryn Gyekis, Jill Ruppe, Diane Norman, Orion Gaudio, Toby Waring, Noah Waring, Willow Mitchell, Victor Champagne and Justin Champagne.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 27 at 2:00 at the Alexandria Little Theatre. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or to Vitas Hospice at www.vitascharityfund.org.
