Elizabeth Davenport Curtis

Elizabeth Davenport Curtis, 81, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023, with family by her side. Known for her vibrant smile and endearing nature, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Elizabeth, known by childhood friends and family as Betty, and then Liz in her adult years, was born on August 17, 1942, in New Haven, CT, to Nicholas J. and Jeanette K. Davenport. She grew up in New Haven, CT, before marrying her husband of 61 years, Richard B. Curtis, on December 26, 1962. Liz was a treasured navy wife and retired registered nurse who worked many years in Arlington Hospital/Virginia Hospital Center and with Dr. Jean-Gilles Tchabo, OB/Gyn.

Liz is survived by her beloved husband, Rich, daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly (Curtis) and John Volpe, and Kristen (Curtis) and Alex Morse; grandchildren, Jensyn, Rylan and Sam; sister, Bonnie (Davenport) Banning; brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Linda Davenport; and ten nieces and nephews.

Liz loved the outdoors, gardening, exercising, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed being on the water, going to the beach, boating on Lake Champlain in Vermont, cruising on the Chesapeake Bay or taking pleasure cruises to far-off places. She had a never-ending quest to learn and see the world.

The family of Elizabeth Curtis wishes to extend our sincere thanks to The Capital Caring Hospice Center team and the numerous nurses, aides and support staff at Greenspring Senior Living who provided care throughout her last few years and hours.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family on January 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 6509 Sydenstricker Road, Burke VA. A private inurnment service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Elizabeth’s name to St. Peter’s in the Woods Episcopal Church, Fairfax Station, VA in order to support the spiritual home and missions of the church she cared so much for.
