On Saturday, August 8, 2015, Fred Feng Ming Chang, a long-time resident of Fairfax, Virginia, died peacefully after a period of illness. Born in Taiwan in 1930, he moved to the United States for his doctoral studies as a civil engineer, after which he was a professor of civil engineering at the University of the District of Columbia for over 25 years and worked on bridge projects for the Maryland Department of Transportation. He had a sharp mind and gentle soul, taking great pride in his professional achievements and those of his family. His loving wife of 36 years, Su Shia Chang, passed away in 2001. He is survived by his only daughter, Dr. Eurica Y. Chang, a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University Medical School, and her husband William D. Ledoux, Jr. Esq., now living in Richmond. Locally, he leaves behind his longtime friend Dr. Vincent C. Lai, whom he has known since his childhood in Taiwan. “Susu” also leaves behind in Annandale his dearest Haeri Kim and her family, all sharing much love and kindness with him over the years. A gathering of close family and friends will be planned after appropriate arrangements can be made, but condolences can be made at the Dignity Memorial website. The family encourages donations to the charity of choice of the bereaved in lieu of flowers.
