H.A. "Skip" Hartman passed away on August 22, 2023, after a long struggle with dementia. The son of Dorothy Cornell and Harrison Hartman, he was born on a kitchen table in Sligo, PA on April 24,1933 and grew up in Clarion, Pa. He served in the Army, stationed in White Sands, NM, where he honed his skills as a cook.
Hartman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Administration from Penn State and was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He joined Loews Hotels in 1964 as Director of Personnel and Labor Relations, and in 1966 was made Assistant Vice President in Charge of Personnel. In quick succession he served as: Managing Director of Loews New York Hotel; Assistant Vice President in Charge of Operations for seven of Loews New York Hotels; and Regional Vice President for the Drake, Regency, Loews New York, and Warwick Hotels.
It was this standard of excellence that saw Skip promoted again in 1973. This time to our Nation’s Capital to open its first luxury hotel in more than 20 years, Loews L’Enfant Plaza. For the next 32 years, Hartman shaped the Washington, DC luxury hotel market until the hotel was sold in 2005.
While his professional accomplishments, awards and accolades are numerous, his most cherished role was that of father and grandfather. Skip is survived by his life partner, Jill Gross; his three children: Kelli (Dave) Pasierb, Scott Hartman, Kim Hartman O’Dea; five grandchildren: Michael Fort, Hunter Hartman, Herrick Hartman, Hali Hartman, and Sean O’Dea.
In Skip’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
In lieu of goodbye, Skip would always say, “Have a happy day!”
