James C. "Jamie" Cantrell, Jr., (82) of Springfield, VA (born in York, PA) died as a result of a traffic accident in Solomons, MD on Friday, June 10, 2011.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps in Korea, he returned to the Metropolitan area, working first as a carpenter and later, established the commercial construction firm Perna and Cantrell, Inc., with his partner Frank A. Perna. After almost fifty years in business, the partners retired in 1995.
Jamie was an avid boater for over fifty years and served as a Past Commander of the Potomac River Power Squadron as well as a Past Commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; children Kirk Cantrell (and wife Joyce), Robin Tanner (and husband Hobert), JC Cantrell III (and wife Mary Lou), and Michael Cantrell. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial gathering is planned for family and friends.
