Jane was born December 4, 1926 in Flint Hill, VA, to Mary and Franklin Eastham, seventh of eight children. She graduated Valedictorian from Manassas High School, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the College of William & Mary, class of ’48. She became associate editor of American Forester Magazine, where she met her photographer husband Jack. She later became the editor of the magazine.
She and Jack moved to Wilburdale in Annandale, VA in 1957, where she and her husband raised their six children and made lifelong friends. She was active in the Wilburdale Civic Association, and edited the newsletter. Wilburdale was a vibrant community in those days. In later years, she was proud to lead the cakewalk at the Wilburdale annual picnic. She loved gardening, especially the flowers, and talking to passing neighbors.
Above all, she found joy in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the in-laws. During the 1950s and 60s there were many camping trips to Skyline Drive and trips to visit the Pawleys’ hundred-acre farm in Rappahannock County. Helen and Ed Pawley were a retired couple who welcomed the Rottiers on weekends, and made them family. Husband Jack was one of eleven children so there were many Rottier relatives to visit with and many who visited. In later years she loved the visits from her children and their families.
Jane is survived by her six children; Jane Porter (Greg), Ross Rottier (Marilyn), Kathryn Rottier, Julia Rottier (Ralph), Richard Rottier (Denise), and Robin Rottier; step-daughter Joyce Ruster; seven grandchildren, Emily Goebel (Blake), Jack Rottier, Ross Rottier, Jacqui Daunt (James), Jennifer Porter, Alexander Rodriguez, and Connor Rodriguez; six great grandchildren, James Goebel, Madeleine Goebel, Ayrton Daunt, Lachlan Daunt, Jensen Daunt, and Carson Rolfe. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Hall.
Her life was a testament to love, laughter and hard work - the best in all of us.
There will be a family graveside service followed by a celebration of her life in the spring.
The family thanks caregivers Francisca Guzman, Agnes Inocencio, Iris Booze, Jocelyn Domigpe and Capital Caring for their loving care.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.demainefunerals.com for the Rottier family.
