Janet Wiemann Lyons, 93, of Springfield, VA, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 in Falls Church, VA. Janet was born in Burlington, IA to Arnold H. and Carrie R. Wiemann on November 22, 1927. After graduating high school in Burlington, she worked as an operator for the local phone company. She married Ronald (Ronny) D. Lyons on October 14, 1948. The ceremony was held at her parent’s home in Burlington and soon thereafter the newlyweds relocated to Parris Island, SC and then Arlington, VA in 1950 for Ronny’s Marine Corps assignments. Janet herself spent several years working at Headquarters Marine Corps in Arlington as a secretary. Taking time off to raise two kids, Linda and Gregory, she returned to the workforce in 1967 as the Office Administrator for a real estate appraisal firm for over 20 years, until the firm’s founder retired and the business closed. Remaining in the real estate services field, Janet then served as the Office Manager for a law office specializing in real estate settlement transactions, finally retiring in 2011. Janet lived 62 years on the same street in the Beverly Forest community in Springfield serving as an officer of the community association for many of those years. She was an avid bowler and loved working in her yard. Janet is preceded in death by Ronald D. Lyons, her husband of 37 years, Tony Lara, (son-in-law), Christopher Beech, (step-grandson), her parents and eight siblings. Janet is survived by her children Linda Lara of Springfield, VA and Gregory Lyons and his wife Cathy of Ashburn, VA, her grandchild Tarina Lara of Fairfax, VA and Stephen Beech her step-grandchild of Aldie, VA, and many nieces and nephews and their children. Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. A private burial will occur Thursday July 29, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Janet W. Lyons. The family of Janet wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses in the Acute Pulmonary Unit at Fairfax Hospital for the kind and compassionate care provided to their mother.
