

Jean was an elementary school teacher and loved children of all ages. She began her career in early childhood education in 1976 in the Clint Independent School District, a public school system in eastern El Paso County, Texas. Jean relocated to northern Virginia in 1986 and retired from Fairfax County Public Schools in 2021. In addition to teaching, Jean was a Girl Scout leader as well as a devoted room mother during her own children’s elementary school years. Jean graduated with honors at the top of her class of almost 900 students at Ft. Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1972 then earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Texas El Paso and a master’s degree from the George Mason University.
Jean was born in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur and Suleima Aanensen on April 1, 1954. She married Paul S. Demshur on April 10, 1977, in El Paso, TX and celebrated 45 years of marriage prior to Paul’s passing in 2022.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Paul S. Demshur, parents, Arthur and Suleima Aanensen, her son, William Zachary Demshur, sister, Gladys Putnam Ennis, brother-in-law, John Ennis, brothers, Arthur Putnam and Paul Putnam, and nephews, Paul Putnam Jr and William K. Aanensen.
Jean is survived by her son Paul and daughter-in-law Sally, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Matthew, daughter Lesley and fiancé Tyson, grandchildren Sydney, Maya, Abby, Brooke, and Grant, brother William A. Aanensen, and nieces and nephews Eileen Ennis, Arthur Putnam Jr., Jonathan Putnam, Matthew Putnam, Adam Putnam, Tonja Putnam Culley, Robert Aanensen, Denise Putnam Gaston, Debi Putnam Novenski, William Johnson and Sabrina Johnson Martin.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Demaine Funeral Home of Springfield, VA.
Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 1:00pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, VA.
