Debbie, 

We are so sorry for your loss.  We have very fond memories of your father - he touched our lives.  We own the Out of Staters (OOS) bicycle club that transported riders on Ragbrai in Iowa.  Your father traveled with us every year and kept in touch throughout the year.  He even stopped to visit us a couple of times over Memorial Day weekend as he traveled to visit relatives and friends.  We really enjoyed his sense of humor.

He would send family pictures of  his granddaughters from time to time.  He was so proud of them all.  He will be greatly missed by many friends in Iowa and around the United States.  Thanks for sharing him with us.

John was my mentor...I wanted to live my biking life as he did.  We connected on many rides and I heard lots of his stories.  I am happy to have called him a friend and I will miss seeing him.  Sandie Robinson

Johnny was one of kind.  Funny, a good friend and fair competitor.  Our gang went back 60 years.  He'll be missed by a lot of people he befriended over the years.  He brought joy to all of us.

The world has lost one of the most outstanding exanples on how to live life.I loved John as so many did that knew him.A heartfelt sympathy goes out to all the family.John should be an inspiration for all of us to live life to the fullest.A long time cycling friend.

The loss of your father leaves a very large hole in our hearts here in Michigan. Mary & I first met your dad at the very first Shoreline Bicycle Tour in 1987. He arrived fresh (well, kinda) from the RAGBRAI tour and was ready to charge up the Shoreline of Michigan for the week with us.  He has become a fixture on this Tour, and I have spent many miles listening to his Service record and tales of family and friends (who come from just about every state in the Union). John always had a joke to tell and a wry smile that just melted your heart. Mary and I will miss his playfulness and humor, and I will certainly miss his email forwards - they were the highlight of my day - every day!  We are sorry for your (and our) loss and will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Debbie, I am a friend of your Dad's from RAGBRAI and beyond.  He was one of the most awesome people I have ever met.  His love of life, his passions for gardening and cycling, and his love of his family set him apart. He was so proud of you all and talked about you so much.  I am sorry that I never got to meet you.  My condolences to you all.  I will truly miss his wisdom and advise, his friendship, his smiley faces, and his answering machine messages. I am in Switzerland and was looking forward to telling him about my trip.  Thank you so much for letting me know about his passing. My love to your family.

WHEN JOHN CAME TO VISIT US EVERY SUMMER BACK IN THE 50's, IT WAS JUST LIKE THE CIRCUS WAS COMING TO TOWN.  HE ALWAYS HAD A CASE OF BEER FOR HIM & POP + THE LATEST TOY FOR US KIDS.  HE GAVE ME MY FIRST BASEBALL BAT, HE INTRODUCED US TO OUR FIRST FRISBEE.  HE GOT AS BIG A KICK OUT OF IT AS WE DID.  HE WAS ALWAYS "YOUNG AT HEART" THAT WAY.  WE'LL MISS HIS E-MAILS, HIS GOOD HUMOR AND HIS HONEST GOODWILL.  HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST GENUINE PERSONS I HAVE EVER MET.  WHAT I SAW IN 1948 WAS WHAT I GOT IN 2011.

Debbie, our condolences on the loss of you father. It was great growing up in the neighborhood with him keeping an eye on everything. Whether coming in out our of the street you knew to slow down to look for your dad in the front yard; if he was there, he always had something funny and/or positive to say.

I did not know your father or your family.  My mother is Ruth Jackson, daughter of Millard Jackson.  I am cousin to Dick Jackson.  My mother was the same age of John when she passed away and I know how hard it is.  You have our sympathies and prayers.

For many years we biked with your dad on week long treks through Michigan.  We loved his wit and his courage.  Everyone knew him as a regular, dry guy.  He knew every back road and took many of them.  His e-mails were often the highlight of our day.  We will miss his presence in our lives and remember his smile.  God bless you.

Debbie, my heart is breaking with the loss you and your family are suffering.  Your dad was a great man...I will always remember (even after 30 years) how involved he was with you and the band.  He was THE band dad for all of us.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss, Debbie.  I hope that you hear many wonderful stories in the coming days of grieving that will sustain you with memories of your dad.

Sorry for your loss Debbie and Donna.  I always enjoyed visiting with John whenever he came to Kellerton.  He was weak last Memorial Day but you said he drove all the way back.  That was his spirit- tough to the end.  He rode his bicycle through the Pearly Gates.

Mr J will be missed by many people including myself and our family.  He was our personal "Neighborhood watch"; which drove my boys crazy but as parents we loved.  He always had a smile and was the first to laugh at himself.  He really set an example on how to get the most out of life.

RIP, John.  You were a true gentleman and a wonderful friend.  Thanks for all the laughter you brought.  You will be missed by so many.

Arlyne Hampton is my mother and John was her oldest friend.  He was also my Dad's (Rex Hampton) best friend. They all grew up in Kellerton, Iowa and remained friends all these many years.  Hallie and John visited my parents where ever they lived and my parents visited them. I knew "Johnny Jackson" as a handsome, fun loving, easy smiling, physically active man who was very proud of being a veteran and father and grandfather.  He will surely be missed by all those who knew him.  My mother (who does not use a computer)is very very saddened by his passing and would want for me to send on her condolences to all the family.
May his memory be a blessing to all those who love him.
