

Joseph Richard Hunter, Sr., 84, of Annandale, VA died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at his home with his loving wife, daughter and son by his side. Joseph was born December 17, 1929 in Morgantown, WV, son of the late Clayton and Neva Hunter of Morgantown. He is also preceded in death by his son Joseph Richard Hunter Jr.
Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Renelda Hunter, his son Robert Lewis Hunter and his daughter Lisa Hunter Fitzgerald. He is lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Joe was a 1948 graduate of Morgantown High School. In July, after his graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Mildred Renelda McKinney (1947 MHS graduate). He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1961 he relocated to Annandale, VA to pursue a career with William H. Singleton Mechanical Contractors. In 1984, Joe and his son Robert started their own HVAC contracting company, Superior Air Systems, Inc. He retired in 2001 with his son Robert and his grandson Joseph continuing to run the business. His hobbies included engineering and assessing mechanical gadgets, and creating devices to enhance everyday life. He enjoyed the HVAC trade so much that throughout his retirement he continued to consult with the family business. He loved spending time with his family and found great joy interacting with his grandchildren and playing hide and seek with his great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2014, 11:00AM at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, in Springfield, VA. Final interment with military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
