Dr. Kate Ruth Sheehan

On August 2, 2015 in Fairfax, Va. Loving wife of 51 years to Jack who predeceased Kate by 3 months; devoted mother to Kathy, John, Tim and Bridget; dedicated grandmother of 14 amazing grandchildren Katie, Jack, Justin, Grace, Sydney, Jonathan, Tim, Shannon, Clara, Jamie, Jake, Ryan, Jackson and Wes. Kate is survived by her sister Bonnie; her sister Jane predeceased her. When her high energy wasn’t a good fit as a nun in the convent, Kate left to be a teacher and soon met Jack. Together they raised 4 children while Jack worked full time, and Kate went back to school to get her Undergraduate, Graduate and Ph.D. degrees, then became a tenured Professor of Mathematics at Marymount University where she served for over 30 years. Kate was unforgettable - kind, smart, irreverent and funny as hell. Her greatest passions were her family, her friends and her students. We will celebrate Kate’s life on Sunday August 9 at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA from 12 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Dr. Kate Sheehan Memorial Scholarship Fund at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
