

February 4, 1924 – July 20, 2015
Loretta Curry Miller, of Springfield, Virginia and more recently, Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015 at the age of 91.
Mrs. Miller was born during a blizzard on February 4, 1924 to George and Kathryn (Lyle) Curry in rural Elk Point, South Dakota. Growing up on a farm, she graduated from high school in 1942 and attended teletype operator school in Omaha, Nebraska. Along with some high school friends, she moved to Washington D.C. to be a teletype operator for the War Department during WWII. After the war, she continued to work for the federal government and attended George Washington University part-time. After raising a family, she worked for ten years in the Fairfax County Public Schools and volunteered with Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO).
She met Jack Warren Miller at work, and they married on September 27, 1952 in Elk Point. They moved from Arlington, Virginia to their family home in Springfield, Virginia where she resided for over 50 years. Loretta enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, reading, watching sports, traveling, gardening, puzzles and games. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved to laugh and enjoy life. She was loved and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Richard) Niska, son William (Debra) Miller; four grandchildren: Monica Niska, Alison Niska Skees, Robert (Tayden) Niska, Meghan Miller; and two great-grandchildren: Robert Skees, and Stephen Skees. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1986, her son, Robert, in 1992; her parents; brothers Robert Curry and C. Patrick Curry, and a sister, Marie Beck.
