

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, the late Robert Paul Hieronymus and is survived by their four sons Robert (Kristy) Hieronymus, of Marietta, GA; William Hieronymus, of Falls Church, VA; David (Karen) Hieronymus, of Pinehurst, NC; and John (Laura) Hieronymus, of Gaithersburg, MD. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Hopkins Farmer of Alexandria, VA, and Toccoa, GA and Louise LeCompte Hopkins of Alexandria, VA.
Margaret was born in Frankfort, KY February 25, 1924, to the late Dr. Porter H. Hopkins, and Elizabeth Sophia Scott Hopkins of Alexandria, VA and Somerset, KY. She is a graduate of Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY receiving a Bachelors of Arts in Education. She was President of the inaugural chapter of the Kappa Delta Sorority at Georgetown. She taught high school English & Latin in the Versailles Kentucky school system near Lexington KY prior to her marriage in 1949.
Margaret was foremost a loving wife and devoted mother raising four sons. For over fifty years, Margaret was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA. During this time, she served in many roles including Membership Chairperson, Church Historian, Member of the Administrative Board and Sunday school teacher. Margaret was an avid bridge player and a trusted friend and confidant to many.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA beginning with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Monday, October 6th immediately followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am presided by the Rev. Dr. Clarence Brown. Interment will be held at the Hieronymus Family Cemetery in Lee County KY near Beattyville at 11 am, Thursday, October 8th followed by a reception at Riverview Farm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to the Missions Committee of Annandale United Methodist Church, Annandale, Virginia.
