He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Catherine; his daughter, Anne Marie Wald; his parents, John Edmund Stevens and Barbara Becker Stevens; and his siblings Bob, Mary Ellen, Jack, and Jerry.
Maurice is survived by his proud children: Maurice Stevens, Jr. (Lisa), Jennifer Gonzalez (John), Joan Andres, Patricia Koon, Joe Stevens (Kristin), Michael Pronio-Stevens (Pam), and Daniel Stevens (Courtney), along with 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Born in Eugene, Oregon, Maurice attended St. Francis High School before serving four years in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he returned to Oregon to attend Oregon State University, where he played basketball and earned a degree in engineering.
For 30 years, Maurice supported his family as an Intelligence Editor for the United States Defense Intelligence Agency. He found joy in summers at the beach, fishing, coaching, and sharing music, but his greatest happiness stemmed from laughter, love, and cherished moments with his family. A lifelong Catholic, Maurice’s faith was an integral part of his identity, guiding him as an individual, husband, father, and grandfather. In his 87 years among us, Maurice touched many lives. He will be remembered and emulated for his love, kindness, friendship, loyalty, and devotion.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff of Aarondale Retirement and Assisted Living Community for their exceptional and compassionate care of Maurice.
A Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be held on May 27, at St. Philip Catholic Church, 7500 St Phillips Ct, Falls Church, VA 22042. The Mass will be preceded by a viewing at 10:00 am, a Rosary Visitation at 10:30 am and the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Maurice's name to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://act.alz.org/donate) or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org).
