Monina Yllana Fernando

Monina Y. Fernando, 78, passed away on December 31, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Augusto, and her children Augusto Jr. (Bobby), Maria Luisa (Pinky), Maria Rhodora (Rhoda), and Maria Rita (Marita).

Monina was born in Naga City, Philippines on Aug 20, 1939. She was the third of eight children of Col. Jose Yllana and Gavina Medenilla. Even as a child, she was the pride and joy of her family. One of the major turning points in her life happened in 1963 when she won the title of Miss Philippines International. She competed in Long Beach, CA where she finished as a semi-finalist making it to the top 15. She married Architect Augusto L. Fernando on May 20, 1964. They were blessed with 4 children. Her eldest daughter, Pinky, married Anton Raneses. They have two children, Catherine Athena (Nina) and Ethan James (Ethan). Rita, her youngest child, married Michael Minteer. They have two children, Sophia Josefine (Sophia) and Mason Augustine (Mason).

Monina was hard-working, devoted, selfless and patient - always putting others before herself. Her love for her family - specially her grandchildren - was evident in everything she did. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was a remarkable woman who will truly be missed.
