
Nicholas C. Marotta was the oldest son of Joseph J. Marotta, founder and owner of Jay’s Drugs Stores, Lockport, NY and Camille Barone Marotta.
Originally a native of Lockport, NY, Mr. Marotta was a member of one of the first graduating classes of DeSales High School and also attended the University of Buffalo, including a Pharmacy Internship with Platt Drug Stores in Roswell, NM. After serving in the United States Army as a Communication Specialist in Korea, he returned to Lockport and assumed several management positions in the family drug store business. With the expansion of Jay’s Drug Stores into five locations in Lockport, Niagara Falls, Medina and Lewiston, NY as well as the addition of Jay’s Camera Shop, Mr. Marotta was instrumental in expanding the company to include Jay’s Medical Supply. His expertise in the field of Home Health Care and marketing of durable medical equipment for home and office use led him to management consulting opportunities with Accredited Medical Supplies in Silver Spring, MD and Kirson Medical Supplies in Baltimore, MD. In the early 1980’s, Mr. Marotta was approached by People’s Drug Stores to design, develop, implement and manage Home Health Care Centers for People’s (now CVS) with their initial opening of People’s Home Health Care Center in Bailey’s Crossroads, VA and expansion to Leesburg, Richmond, Virginia Beach and Forestville, MD, before the organization was sold to CVS and the Health Care Centers sold independently.
Survivors include his wife Trudy J. Marotta of Springfield, VA, his children Christopher C. Marotta of Centerville, VA, Camille (David) Makepeace, Livonia, NY, Carol (Frank) DiNicolantonio, Naples, FL, Nicholas J. (Sandra) Marotta, Fairfax, VA, Cynthia Marotta Hess, Lockport, NY, Robert J. (Beth) Marotta, Lockport, NY; brother James J. Marotta, Lockport, NY, sister Rose Marie (Siman) Glavinic, Kensington, MD, twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His sister, Pam Marotta Farr of Chevy Chase, MD passed away in 2005.
A memorial service will be held at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA 22152 on Wednesday, April 1st at 1:00 p.m.
