It was with great sadness that I have received the message of Pat´s passing. He was one of the kindest and most caring persons I have ever met. Working with him was a great pleasure and experience - as it was to have fun with him. I recall with much joy the time he invited us to his home to watch the Superbowl. Pat was one of the very few corporate level managers that actually made us “little guys” feel appreciated. When he visited AUI’s research center in NM, he’d make it a point to stop by my office just to say “hello” and ask how things were going.  I had a great deal of respect for Pat. My condolences to Pat's family and community for the loss they are experiencing.

It’s impossible to sum up my gratitude for my greatest mentor ever, Pat Donahoe. But for those of us who had the profound privilege of calling him a mentor, and a dear friend, the impact he left is written in every corner of our hearts and in the history on modern astronomy.
Pat wasn’t just wise — he was extraordinarily generous with his wisdom. He had that rare combination of political brilliance and meticulous attention to detail, all wrapped in a spirit that radiated calm strength and happiness. Where others hesitated, he found the right words, the right advice, the right hand to help, always. He never, ever raised his voice to make an impact. His quiet integrity moved mountains, quite literally.
To be mentored by Pat was to be seen — truly seen — for who you were, and gently, purposefully encouraged toward who you could become. He led without ego. He taught by example. He corrected with kindness. He celebrated my accomplishments more than himself.
I’ll remember most the thousand laughters. The way we’d double over during long travel days, telling stories that only got better with time. The joy in sharing moments that had nothing to do with work — cheering wildly during the Super Bowl, or sitting around a table with our families, just enjoying being together. Pat made space for joy. And in doing so, he made the rest of life — even the hardest parts — more bearable.
He was a giant in so many ways: in intellect, in heart, in humility. And yet he always made you feel like the most important person in the room. 
Thank you, Pat, for the legacy you built in ALMA Observatory and for turning my career in a way that only you could make it. I carry your lessons with me. I carry your love.
Rest easy, dear friend. I will miss you so much.

Pat was an idefatigable and wise guide while we were trying to navigate the intricacies of ALMA construction and its trilateral partners' processes.  Always approachable, conveying wisdom, he was a welcome participant in any group.  I am saddened by our loss.

I've known Pat for more than 50 years since we both met at graduate school, That's 10 years longer than Pat's love affair with his 1984 Ford Country Squire station wagon!. We both took jobs in DC after graduate school and soon became roommates. We were part of a DC/Philly crowd that were close friends and shared a beach house in Avalon on the Jersey shore for many years,
Pat matured faster than the rest of us and married Ann at a younger age and became a family man. We remained friends as I moved away from DC for more than 15years before returning. Our relationship became even closer in our mid to late 60's as we evolved into retirement. My wife Linda and I did vacations with Pat and Ann and enjoyed dinners out together and other social occasions. 
I will always treasure the memories of our time spent together and of our great friendship. Patrick William Donahoe, I love you and will miss you dearly.

I met Pat through my Brother-In-Law, his cousin Bob.  He was sharing  his interest in genealogy and what he had found just about his own family.  My sister Maureen, Bob's wife, mentioned we didn't have a family member that knew how to really do it.   Pat offered to do the beginning research into my mom's family.   He was so much fun to work with and found so many interesting details....and he traced us back to the Mayflower!!!!   We couldn't believe it!  

He was so selfless in his efforts, like the obit says, kind and generous, and just so terrific to us.  We are so sorry for your loss of this very special man.

Ann, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, Pat. Pat was a terrific human being. I so loved when we got together for our ACH Reunions and  when I recieved his Christmas cards, as we caught up with the latest news. He will be missed, he was a true class act.

Our sincere sympathies to Ann and the extended Donahue family.  On behalf of his Alma Mater St Anselm College, his classmates and the college community Pat was a wonderful classmate actively engaged with fellow classmates throughout the years.   Wonderful person..a life well lived.   He will be missed.
