

After a busy and rewarding 8-year cancer remission, Dick, age 78, died on October 1.
He was born in Brooklyn NY, served in the US Army, graduated from the Univ. of MD and received his PhD from Catholic Univ. Early in his career, he was the Clinical Director for the Mental Health Center in Woodstock VA and as an employee of the US Dept. of Agriculture developed its first Employee Assistance Program. Dick worked as a Clinical Psychologist in his Northern VA private practice for many years, also serving as an ombudsman and presenting workshops through Sheppard Pratt Health System. After retiring, he and his wife created a small videography/photo business. When they moved to the new Shenandoah Active Adult Community, he helped establish its first homeowners group and participated in various activities including organizing and leading an Illness and Caregiving Support Group. As a community volunteer, he videotaped plays and musicals for various DC area high schools, served as Board Chair for the Metropolitan Chorus; was Family Services Chairman, Board Member, and Interim Director of the Habitat for Humanity of Winchester-Frederick-Clarke; and served as a patient volunteer for the Blue Ridge Hospice.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann, son Michael, three step-children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many close extended family and friends. His first marriage to Sarah Barnett ended in divorce and he was predeceased by his daughter Michele.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on November 25, 1:00, in the Shenandoah Lodge at Trilogy at Lake Frederick, 180 Bald Eagle Dr, Lake Frederick, VA.
