William A.
Of Springfield, on November 6 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of 71 years of Regina Benson; caring father of Lois (Edward Lopez) Benson, Leslie (Rick) Mays, Paul (Pam) Benson, and Jean (Milan) Shepherd; dear grandfather of Meredith (Aaron) Campbell; great-grandfather of Abigail, Hannah, and Justus; and brother of Robert Benson. Bill proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II, and the Korean Conflict aboard the USS New Jersey. He retired from the Washington Gas Light Company after many years of service. Bill and Regina spent 30 years in retirement in Clearwater, FL before relocating back to Northern Virginia. He was also a proud and accomplished musician in his early years, playing French horn in the Catholic University band, in the US Navy band, and in the Redskins band. A private memorial service will be held at Greenspring Village, and inurnment with military honors will take place at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
