Grover, William Douglas William (Bill) Douglas Grover 66 of Burke Virginia passed away on May 23, 2016. Born in Alexandria, Virginia, he was the son of the late Cecil Clarence Grover and the late Ruth Catherine Dohner Grover and husband of Karen Runyon Grover. Bill graduated from St. John’s College High School in Washington DC, Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a BA in History and George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a MA in American Colonial History. He worked for the National Archives and Records Administration as an Archivist from 1973 – 2004 in both Washington DC and College Park, MD. After retirement Bill was able to pursue his passions with great enthusiasm. He worked at Laurel Hills golf course and Twin Lakes golf course. He also enjoyed bowling and joined the NCABA board of directors in 1994, served as president during the 2004-2005 season. He was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 2006. He was involved with youth coaching for the National Capital Area Bowling Association. He helped to create a Club Bowling Program at George Mason University and taught a bowling course through the PE Department. He participated in numerous leagues across the northern Virginia area and was most proud that he finally bowled a perfect game. Becoming a grandfather was one of Bill’s greatest joys. No one could make Bill smile the way that Olivia could and he enjoyed every minute with her but particularly enjoyed sharing knock-knock jokes, coloring and sharing Snoopy cartoons with her. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Karen Grover, stepchildren Michael Shea Gardner, Lora Runyon Hile (Drew) and Benjamin Runyon, granddaughter Olivia Hile, sister-in-law Dayle Grover, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, many family, and his late wife Anne Grover. A celebration of life will be held at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia on June 1st at 11:00 am.
