

Of Springfield, on September 21, at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of 54 years to Sylvia Torres; father of Rob (Ruth) Torres; Nick (Susan) Torres, and Lee (Angela) Torres; grandfather of Matt, Paige, Charlotte, Alexander, Lucy, and William; and also survived by extended family.
William retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after a decorated 30 year career. He specialized in communications and served a year in Vietnam, for which he earned the Bronze Star. He also spent time in the Belgian Congo, Libya, Germany, Japan, England, and other posts during his career. Following his military service, he worked for Navy Federal Credit Union for 17 years. His work for Navy Federal included the installation of their first ATMs.
Friends are welcome on Sunday, October 1, from 2-5 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield. A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will follow on Monday, October 2 at 1:30 pm at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St NE, Vienna. Interment with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery will follow at a later date.
Donations in William’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
