In Loving Memory of Reverend Agnes Hart, a remarkable woman dedicated to serving others, transitioned peacefully on August 25, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, community service, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
Born March 11, 1933, in Enid, Mississippi, Agnes was a true pillar of her community. She had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was serving or ministering to the souls in her church. Agnes attended Cote Brilliante Elementary and graduated from Washington Tech. Later, she received a degree in Theology ministries and was the first of a few African-American women to be ordained in the C.M.E. Episcopal Church. She served on the Board of Evangelism in the 3rd C.M.E. district, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Missionary Society, Lay Ministries, and St. Louis District Minister Alliance. Agnes was a lifetime member of Murchison Tabernacle C.M.E. in St. Louis, MO., but was assistant Pastor at Scruggs Memorial C.M.E. before becoming Pastor at Douglas Memorial in Webster Groves, MO. During her Las Vegas, NV residency, she assisted the Pastor at First Williams C.M.E.
After a long and successful career at Mercantile Bank, Agnes embarked on a new adventure at 55. She returned to O’Fallon Tech School of Nursing and earned her License Practical Nursing, a decision that reflected her deep desire to continue caring for others. Her dedication to the first laws of nature and self-preservation is inspiring, as she brought comfort and solace to those in need during their most challenging times. Agnes had a zest for life that was truly infectious. She was an avid sports enthusiast, with a passion for basketball, boxing, and NASCAR racing. However, her heart belonged to baseball, and she was a big fan of the St. Louis Browns and later the Chicago Cubs.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Blanche (Clay) Bragg, and her grandchildren: Sharron Battle, George “Chivas” Battle, Tawannah Walton, William S. Hart, III., Juan Hart, great-grandmother to Sevon Battle, and Kimora Hart. She also leaves behind her brother, Alfred “John” Nesbit, and special friends; Tina Walton and Simone Brooks. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred, Sr., and Martha E. Nesbit, her husband, William S. Hart, Sr., and her son William S. Hart, Jr., along with her sisters; Martha E. Williams and Mae F. May. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
A memorial visitation for Agnes will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Alexander - White - Mullen Funeral Home, 11101 Saint Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, MO 63074, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
