
Famie R Neil Down, a cherished matriarch and devoted educator, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in O'Fallon, Missouri, at the age of 96. Born on July 26, 1928, in Beattie, Kansas, she led a life rich in love, learning, and music.
Famie spent her formative years in Beattie, where she cultivated a passion for knowledge that would guide her throughout her distinguished career. A graduate of Kansas State University, she earned a bachelor's degree in teaching, setting the foundation for her lifelong vocation. Famie's early career included teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, an experience she spoke of fondly, sharing tales of those formative years spent shaping young minds.
Her life was a tapestry interwoven with creativity and dedication, not only evident in her professional endeavors but also in her personal passions. Famie had an insatiable love for reading. Her appreciation for music was profound, as she became proficient in playing the piano. Together with her beloved husband, Jack, she cherished evenings spent dancing, a shared pastime that reflected their enduring bond.
Together with her beloved husband, she explored countless destinations in their RV, embracing the beauty and diversity of each new place. Their journeys were filled with shared laughter, cherished memories, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life on the road.
Famie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Finnigin and Pearl Finnigin (nee Byers), and her dear husband of 71 years, Jack Down. Their memories remain eternally cherished in her heart.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Jacqueline Binkholder, and devoted son, Gregory (Joan) Down. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kenton M. (Amanda) Binkholder, Christian Binkholder, Phillip Binkholder, Rebecca Down, and Lauren (Dave Mossop) Down, along with great-grandchildren Bailey, Magnolia, and Dahlia, who brought immense joy to her later years.
Famie R Neil Down's life was a testament to the virtues of love, dedication, and the pursuit of knowledge. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew and loved her.
