Irene Grady Herzog of St. Louis, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2012. She was the loving wife of Michael Herzog, who survives. Having recently celebrated a wedding anniversary on the 4th of July Mike and Irene said they chose that date to be married because of the sparks of love that flew between them.
She is also survived by a daughter Cindy Herzog and a grandson Daniel Boaz.
Irene is described by her family as a lady with a great sense of humor and passion for life; a passion for exploring, music, chocolate and flowers. Her favorite memory is her and Michael’s trip to Hawaii several years ago. Irene often told of the wonderment of watching sunrises and sunsets, interaction with the people and the beautiful flowers growing there. Indeed, Irene was one who stopped to smell the roses during her life.
Tears came out as Irene’s family made plans to lay her to rest. But underneath, clearly visible, there were also smiles and laughter as they recalled the life of a lady who received and gave a lot of love to and from her family.
Irene was a prayerful woman and her goal to be a missionary went unfulfilled. Nonetheless, she worked many years bringing comfort as a home healthcare worker. Remembering Irene’s wish to work in the mission field her family asks that memorial donations in her name be made to Franklin Graham’s missionary organization Samaritans Purse. Donations may be made online at www.samaratanspurse.org.
Also following Irene’s wishes, a private burial service was held. Interment was in Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
