Jack Eldon Down, age 96, of O'Fallon, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023. He was born March 30, 1927 in Clay Center, Kansas to James and Blanche (nee Thornton) Down who have preceded him in death.
After graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corp as a flight mechanic/engineer during World War II. He attended Kansas State University, after his military service ended, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his 35 year career as an engineer, he worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. His work projects included both commercial and military aircraft, as well as projects with the space industry.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his loving wife of 71 years, Famie (nee Finnigin), his children; Jacqueline Binkholder and Gregory (Joan) Down. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Kenton M. (Amanda) Binkholder, Christian and Phillip Binkholder, Rebecca and Lauren (Dave Mossop) Down, along with his great-grandchildren, Bailey and Magnolia Binkholder.
A visitation for Jack will be held Monday, June 5, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Alexander - White - Mullen Funeral Home, followed by funeral service at 9:00 AM. Jack will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan, St. Louis, MO 63125.
