

Jonathan (John) Smarr Seabaugh, 79 left the earthly realm at his home on March 14th, 2024 after approximately 3 months of battling multiple health issues. He was preceded in death by his older brother David O. Seabaugh, his mother Dorothy (Philipson) Seabaugh and father Otto G. Seabaugh. He is survived by first cousins Abigail Gertrude (Thornton) Givens, Allan Fitzhugh Thornton, Susan (Philipson) Kochi, Barry Dugger and many other cousins and relatives. John was born in St. Louis May 16th, 1944. John endured lifelong serious health issues. At age 5 he was stricken with polio and was diagnosed with childhood diabetes at age 10. He was not expected to live more than 30 years, but he fought hard and cared for himself and lived a long life despite the odds.
John graduated from Normandy High School in 1962. He won many photography awards as early as high school and they netted him a scholarship. He then attended Washington University and St. Louis University continuing education courses on computer related subjects. John’s employment included Southwestern Bell and McDonnell Douglas as an IT professional. He was very firm that he was a Linux user and wanted nothing to do with Microsoft.
John’s hobbies were HiFi equipment, photography, traveling, and scuba diving. John used the best equipment to play the music he loved. He always had an interest in music. He also played the violin, but in his own words he was “lousy”. He was avid photographer at an early age an interest shared by his brother. He developed his own photographs and was even a certified underwater photographer. He loved adventure travel to Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, Acapulco, and the US. He enjoyed cave diving, hiking, river rafting and sailing. His favorite memories were being snow bound at 6000 feet and a hot air balloon ride across the Serengeti. Scuba (cave) diving was his passion and he stated recently if he could do anything it would be to go back to St. Thomas for diving. John held certifications for Wreck Diving, Underwater Navigation, Advanced Open Water Diving, Scuba Equipment Specialist, Search and Recovery Diver, Rescue Diver, Cavern Diver, and Deep Diver.

A visitation for Jonathan will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Alexander - White - Mullen Funeral Home, 11101 Saint Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, MO 63074. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Fairmount Cemetery, 835 Caruthers Avenue, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
