Symphony concerts, shows at the Rep, the Fox, Stages, movies--we shared all this over the years, but what I remember the most is just the simple dinners.  We would sit for hours and discuss and dissect the shows we saw, what we thought it meant, what we got out of it.  Discuss everything, from the most important to the most inconsequential things going on in our lives.  Through her humor and caring, Mary made all the small things seem big and important, and all the bad things seem not so important after all.  This is what stays with me the most--what I miss the most.  I thank God for the 30 years I had with Mary.  I thank God because I know she's watching over me and her other special loved ones.

Dear Joe and Barkley,  One of the best days of my life was when Mary answered my add for cleaning. I thought it was going to be like every other house but I was very wrong. When I got there and rang the bell a new friend answered the door. She greeted me with the friendliest smile { which I soon learned was her trade mark } and a welcoming hello. I did not know if I was coming to clean or if we were going shopping together( thats what friends do). It was such a pleasure going over there and talking with Joe, Mary and Riley and later Barkley. One of my many funny events was that there was a time when I refused to wipe off the counter where the books and cameras were. Mary was keeping some of her beloved hard shelled pets in an aquarium (some kind of roaches?). I made it very clear they were not beloved to me and I was not picking them up dust or no dust. I guess it is easy to see why we got along so well. She did rub off on me bless her heart , to this day I do not kill a bug I pick them up in klenex and take them outside. God Bless you Mary. I had to make a change for the good and bad. I stopped cleaning to watch my grandson. That in turn led to us moving to O'Fallon which led to another grandson. Life has been good and busy and had it's challenges out here. I am so sorry to say we made some mistakes one big one being not keeping up  and now paying a horrible price. Joe- We just found about Mary & we are so sorry. I remember playing with Mary at my grandpa's house & later seeing her at the family Christmas parties. Our deepest sympathy to you.

To dear Joe and sweet Barkley...my profound and heartfelt sympathy to you both in the loss of your spouse and mother, my good friend, Mary. Even though we had not seen each other in person for several years, we corresponded by e-mail and phone, and I always felt close to her. You have both had many challenges to face these last few years, and have faced them admirably. I have prayed for you all non-stop, and I wil continue to do so. None of us wanted to see Mary suffer, as she is so good and kind to all. I confidently pray she is feasting at the banquet table of the Lord. God, his Holy Mother Mary, and St. Joseph were with her to take her home, I believe, and Riley. Please take care of yourselves and know that you both are deeply loved!! I will never forget my lunches with Mary at Sweet Tomatoes, or my visits to your home. They are wonderful memories which will never be forgotten. God bless you and comfort you. Peace be with you!!

i remember that day of the photo joe to my left, mary to my right.. it was one of the best days of my life and i will never forget , mary was one that would be there  no matter when or were she would be there to talk to.

There are no words to exactly express our loss and our thoughts and our sympathies for Joe and family.  Mary was our friend who adopted us and made us part of her family.  Our thoughts are with Joe during this sad time.  Great memories will help carry him and all who loved Mary through this difficult time of grief.

Mary loved kids and animals. We would be on one of our many camping adventures at Sam A Baker State Park, and she would be helping the kids with the hot glue gun to create "frogs" from rocks,sticks and whatever they could find for the Junior Naturalist program...Amanda and I still have our "frogs" and many fond memmories of Mary. Many laughs and great times camping, at Christmas gatherings, and of course the Trivia nights (Mary carried the team:) I miss her terribly, but I never wanted to see her in pain and distress. God is so good,and is there to comfort those who are hurting.

I thank my cousin and friend Christy Orlet for introducing Mary to me.  I was not the best at Trivia but I enjoyed the night out with Mary and Joe, and an occasional dinner and movie.  My thoughts and prayers are with Joe and all of Mary's friends.

The optimist will say "They're in a better place." The pessimist will say "It was just their time." Be the realist. Smile and say "They'll always be with me."

I will miss my movie buddy, we could talk about bugs, boyscouts, or anything for that matter.  She always made me feel special. Mary was the closest thing to a grandmother and she lived right next door. Our neighborhood will not be the same.

We first met Mary shortly after we moved into out home ten years ago. She and Joe brought over a "welcome to the neighborhood"gift. For the next ten years she always found a way to bring smiles to our faces. Every Halloween and Christmas, she had special surprises for the kids. She was always eager to share her love and knowledge of nature with them. Our family will miss her  but we are comforted by the fact that her pain is gone and that she is in a better place.

What a wonderful life she gave to everyone she touched. We were very LUCKY to have had her in our life’s. She touched so many hearts and brought joy to all who knew her.  It may hurt our hearts now but she is at peace with our father in Heaven. The WORLD has lost one of it's great lights and will be a little less bright tomorrow.** Mary I will miss you!

Mary was such an amazing person who adopted and supported our family ever since we met at Sam Baker State Park.  Mary inspired us, helped those in need, and stood up for what was right.  We will all miss her dearly, but will cherish the memories and times we shared forever.

May the private journey of grief be brightend by your memories and warmed by those who hold her close in heart and mind. Sharing in your sadness.

Mary was this wonderfully talented and creative woman with a great sense of humor, who laughed at my jokes, always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, and had a knack for making people feel good about themselves.  I'm richer for having had her in my life and knowing she was my friend.

Mary was one of those people you were always glad to see and happy to spend time with. She always made you feel welcome to be with her. Mary will be very greatly missed.

When I came to work at DePaul, Mary was one of my first friends there.  My memories of her are her kindness and friendliness towards people and the way she enjoyed life.  She loved her husband, her dogs, her family and her friends.  Once you were Mary's friend, you were her friend for life and she would do anything for you.  She loved the holidays.  I remember her dressing up as a nun for Halloween at work and decorating the Behavioral Health Office door with an elaborate nativity scene.  I remember her introducing me to Trivia Nights, which I wasn't very good at. She loved the outdoors, especially camping with Joe and the dog and going to the ranger programs.  You will be missed by many, Mary. Thank you for sharing your life with us.  Joe, you are in my prayers.
