Sharon Kay Smith

Sharon Kay SMITH, age 76, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Sharon was born December 15, 1945 to Clifton and Doris (nee: Robbins) Smith. They have preceded her in death. She is survived by: her loving partner and husband of 40 years Tom Petcoff; her siblings: Jerry Smith, Connie Senften (David), Melody Miller (Mitch); her niece and nephew Amanda Miller and Grant Miller (Danielle); and grand-nephew Griffin.

Sharon was a graduate of Simpson College, and then a dedicated employee serving as a caseworker and supervisor for the Iowa Department of Social Services. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association and a 30 year member of the Des Moines Civic Center. She loved their productions, especially the musicals. Crosswords and jigsaw puzzles were a passion of Sharon's, and she was an avid reader as well. She enjoyed all aspects of nature, particularly spending summer and fall in Wisconsin. An avid bird watcher, she enjoyed tending her numerous bird feeders. Being a social person, she looked forward to the many holidays and special occasions with her in-laws Ed and Roxie Jacobson and the extended Jacobson family. Each June attending the Smith family reunion was another enjoyable opportunity to be with the many cousins, aunts and uncles who were so much part of her years growing up. She met lots of people and made many friends everywhere she and Tom went. While making daily walks with Trapper, their golden retriever, she was quick to get acquainted and make friends.

Sharon was a huge dog lover. Memorial contributions may be made to: Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc.
