Sr Mary Helen Tunnicliff

Sister Mary Helen was born on June 12, 1926 in St. Louis, MO. and was baptized Mary Helen Tunnicliff. Sister Mary Helen entered the Sisters of Mercy Community in Webster Groves, MO. on September 8, 1949 and professed her first vows on March 12, 1952.

She graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 and received her license as a Registered Nurse in 1950. She received her Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s College in Xavier, KS in 1957 and her Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. in 1968.

Her ministry in health care included serving as the operating and emergency room supervisor at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Vicksburg, Mississippi and operating room supervisor and later administrative assistant at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. Prior to her retirement in 2006 Sister Mary Helen volunteered at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. In 2007 Sister moved to Catherine’s Residence.

Sister is preceded in death by her loving parents, Ray and Ida Tunnicliff, her siblings Fern (Marvin) Dennis, Dorothy, Sr. Mary Raymonda, RSM, Arthur (Ann), Jane, Raymond (Edna) and Sr. Mary Patricia, MMS. Sr. Mary Helen is survived by her brother, Clarence (Carol) and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Wake, with welcoming and sharing of memories at 3:00 PM in the Mercy Center chapel at 2039 N. Geyer Rd. on Friday December 30, 2011. The Memorial Eucharistic Liturgy will in the Mercy Center Chapel at 6:00 PM on December 30, 2011. Sister will be buried at Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
