Ann Grider, age 98, passed away peacefully in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, on August 3, 2025. She was born in Hamtramck to Michael and Dena Mandruk just before the onset of the Great Depression—an era that shaped her remarkable resilience and enduring character.
Ann lived a long, full life devoted to family, faith, and caring for others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Kyle Grider. She was the proud and loving mother of Duane (Ellen) Grider, Steven (Cindy) Grider, and Sharon (Jeff Millar) Grider. Her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of cherished grand-dogs brought her immense joy throughout the years.
She was a member of St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Ravanica where she began singing in the choir as a teenager. It was there she formed a bond with four dear friends (Betty, Lillian, Nellie and Louise) who remained close companions their entire lives. Ann's greatest gift was her role as a caregiver—both professionally and personally. She was always ready to help, no matter the need or circumstance. Among her greatest joys, aside from cookies, chips and ice cream, were her daily walks especially when accompanied by friends.
To know Ann was to admire her strength, warmth, and indomitable spirit. She was loving, feisty, and full of life, and her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she held so close. Special thanks to all the staff at American House Memory Care, who not only provided exceptional care for Ann but also truly loved her.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Ravanica, 4575 E. Outer Drive, Detroit, Michigan, on August 6 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30am. A luncheon will follow the service, and a private interment for family will be held at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East. Donations may be made to St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Ravanica in Ann’s memory.
