David was born on October 31, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Daniel Naples and Elizabeth DeMaioribus. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School, where he was proud to serve as captain of the football team, earning All-City and All-State honors.
David married his childhood sweetheart, Sandy McDowell, in 1964. They had known each other since they were twelve years old and began dating at sixteen — a love story that spanned a lifetime. Together, they built a life filled with devotion, adventure, and laughter.
David was the proud father of Danielle (Naples) Brousseau and father-in-law to Tim Brousseau. He adored his granddaughter, Elizabeth Brousseau, who brought him endless joy.
He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Naples, and his sister, Elizabeth (Naples) Bushnell.
Known for his unwavering commitment and loyalty, David brought passion and heart to everything he did. His love for sailing defined much of his life for over two decades. Alongside Sandy, Danielle, Tim and other dear friends, he raced four times a week on Lake St. Clair, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, and Lake Erie. He was also an avid fisherman, forever at peace and happiest on the water.
David’s deep involvement in his community reflected his generous spirit. A former Commodore of the Great Lakes Yacht Club, he chaired numerous races and enthusiastically supported every organization he joined. He was also a dedicated Mason and cherished the lifelong friendships he built through these pursuits.
Above all, David was a loyal friend and a steady, joyful presence. Always ready with a smile and a laugh, he was equally the one people turned to in times of need. His love for Sandy was fierce and steadfast — he often referred to her as the love of his life. They were inseparable, especially in their retirement years, sharing countless adventures side by side.

David will be remembered for his warmth, humor, unwavering loyalty, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
